Elevated Troponin Levels Serving As a Predictive Marker for Early Neurological Worsening in Ischaemic Stroke with Atrial Fibrillation Patients¹

An elevation of serum cardiac troponin I (cTnI), which involves the regulation of calcium-mediated myocardial contraction, could be found in patients with ischaemic stroke and related to their prognosis. With the findings of the close relationship between cTnI and atrial fibrillation (AF), cTnI could be a sensitive prognostic indicator in patients with AF-related stroke. To assess the association between serum cTnI and early neurological deterioration (END) in patients with AF-related stroke, a recent study involving 1,133 patients with AF-related stroke patients had been conducted for two years. The results have shown that higher serum cTnI in patients with AF-related stroke would exhibit END.
