College Education against Mobile Phone Dependence Is Needed
BY: Dr. Roy LauApr 29, 2020

A recent longitudinal study investigated the associations between mobile phone dependence and mental health status among Chinese undergraduate students indicated that the prevalence of anxiety and depression at Year 3 was 7.5% and 9.4%, respectively. The results further demonstrated that mobile phone dependence at Year 1, college adjustment at Year 2 and mental health status at Year 3 were significantly correlated with each other. Essentially, mobile phone dependence at Year 1 would predict poor mental health status at Year 3. Thus, the findings highlighted the need of college intervention against mobile phone dependence among college students by incorporating guiding programs into regular syllabus.
