Early Estimation of Case Fatality Rate of COVID-19 in China

The outbreak of atypical pneumonia caused by novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Wuhan, China is still ongoing and has spread to other regions in China and overseas. It has been reported that the estimated basic reproductive number (Ro) of COVID-19 reported in China up to 17-February, 2020 ranges from 2.24 to 3.581. Based on a recent data-driven analysis, the case fatality rate (CFR) in the early phase of the COVID-19 outbreak was estimated to range from 0.15% to 5.25%2.
