The European Society of Hypertension (ESH) presented the updated guidelines for hypertension management in 2023 Summer. Coincidently, 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of nebivolol in Hong Kong. To celebrate these milestones, A. Menarini Hong Kong Ltd. supported the Hong Kong College of Cardiology (HKCC) by inviting a world-class renowned speaker, Prof. Guiseppe Mancia, to conduct an evening scientific symposium titled ¡§Unveiling the 2023 ESH Hypertension Guideline and its Practical Implications¡¨ on 24th October 2023 to discuss the latest development in Cardiology.

The event commenced with Dr. Peter Cho-Yiu Wong, the Chairman of the symposium, leading a brief survey that gave Prof. Mancia a glimpse into the local practice of hypertension management. He then invited the guest speaker, Prof. Giuseppe Mancia, to present the latest updates on the 2023 ESH Hypertension Guideline.

Prof. Mancia, the President of the Hypertension Foundation of the ESH, shared thorough insights and analysis supporting the rationales of recommendations in the latest ESH guidelines. Two key highlights in the blood pressure lowering strategy were the initiation of dual therapy and the broadening usage of beta blockers. Prof. Mancia also highlighted the heterogeneity of beta blockers. Third generation beta-blockers, such as nebivolol, possessed distinguished B1 selectivity and additional vasodilating properties that delivered promising efficacy, safety profiles and CV risk reduction properties compared with non-vasodilating classical BBs.

After the lecture, the audience engaged in the interactive Q&A session. The participants appreciated the symposium as they found it informative, and a lot of concerns were discussed. Towards the end of the event, Dr. Peter Wong made a closing speech and thanked Prof. Mancia for the enlightening speech. Dr. Leung Tat Chi presented a token of appreciation to Dr. Peter Wong on behalf of the HKCC. The symposium culminated on a high note.
