The “Kidneys Talk” Channel is a live channel organised by the Hong Kong Kidney Foundation (HKKF), with the Hong Kong Society of Nephrology (HKSN) and the Hong Kong Association of Renal Nurses (HKARN) as the co-organisers. The channel aims to provide information on kidney care, and to serve as a platform for patients with kidney diseases to share their experiences and inquiries on living with the disease. With the success of the first season of the “Kidneys Talk” broadcasted from October 2021 to January 2022, the second season of the Kidneys Talk has been commenced on 9th July 2022 together with the launching ceremony of the World Kidney Day in Hong Kong 2022.

The theme of the World Kidney Day 2022 is “Bridge the Knowledge Gap to Better Kidney Care”, which emphasises the enhancement in personal and organisational health literacy. To achieve this goal, a series of local programs coordinated by the HKKF have been initiated. For instance, an international survey evaluating the most accessible channel for patients with kidney diseases was conducted by the HKKF. The survey findings are expected to provide insights for optimising the action plan for delivering healthcare information.

While the first season covered the whole journey of living with kidney diseases, the theme of the Kidneys Talk Season 2 is “Learn More for the Better Kidney Health” and a wider scope of topics related to kidney disease, including diet, optimised treatments for CKD patients, East-meets-West treatment, as well as complications and psychosocial issues of CKD will be covered. Similar to the first season, healthcare professionals will be invited to answer the inquiries from audience in each episode of the coming season.

At the ceremony on 9th July 2022, honourable guests including Dr Ronald Lam, Director of the Department of Health, and Mr Henry Fan Hung-ling, Chairman of the Hospital Authority were invited to witness the launching of the World Kidney Day in Hong Kong 2022 and the Kidneys Talk Season 2. The event included lectures on health literacy offered by healthcare professionals of the organising societies. In addition, a drama show highlighting the needs and real-life experiences of patients with kidney diseases in acquiring healthcare information was played by patient volunteers.

The “Kidneys Talk” Channel is brought by the HKKF, a local non-profit making voluntary organisation aims to promote kidney health and the awareness of kidney diseases. The HKKF provides renal replacement therapy for patients with end-stage kidney failure and strives to optimise quality of life for patients affected by kidney diseases.
