Suffer from Menopause Symptoms? Curb them with High-Quality Carbs

Consumption of high-quality carbohydrates in postmenopausal women are found to be potential in lowering somatic and psychological symptoms of menopause. In a recent study, 393 postmenopausal women were selected to complete a validated food frequency questionnaire and menopause rating scale (MRS). Three indices, including dietary fibre, glycaemic index and the ratio of solid carbohydrates to total carbohydrates, were used to calculate the carbohydrate quality index (CQI). To assess the relationship between CQI and menopause symptoms, linear and logistic regression were used. The result revealed that CQI and the total MRS score, somatic score and psychological score were inversely related. Therefore, consumption of high-quality carbohydrates may be a potential method to relieve menopause symptoms.
