Hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) is well known to be associated with increased risk of different diseases including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases. To have a better understanding of pathogenesis of HHcy and evaluate the relationship between the promoter methylation levels of six key enzyme genes, age and serum folate level, a recent study analysed the key enzyme genes promoter methylation in 299 HHcy patients through PCR amplification and MethylTargetTM methods. The study suggested that age and folate deficiency may be possibly correlated with increased risk of HHcy.
