BY: Yan ChiuFeb 24, 2021

Smartphone is one of the most popular technological devices among different age groups worldwide and has become an essential part of everyday life. A study recruited 249 adolescents and evaluated the musculoskeletal risks associated with the problematic smartphone use among university students. The findings indicated that smartphone addiction was associated with the higher musculoskeletal pain prevalence in the neck, wrists or hands, shoulders and upper back. Considering the potential risk of musculoskeletal pain associated with the excessive use of smartphone, attention should be directed towards the safe use of technology and increasing public awareness of the hazards of problematic smartphone use is compulsory.
