The associations between 4 types of food, including processed meat, unprocessed red meat, poultry and fish, and incident cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality were recently reported. The diet data from 1985 to 2002 of a pooled cohort of 29,682 adults in the United States were analysed. The results demonstrated that intake of processed meat, unprocessed red meat or poultry was significantly associated with incident CVD. Besides, intake of processed meat or unprocessed red meat was significantly associated with all-cause mortality. The findings thus indicated the slightly increased risk of incident CVD and all-cause mortality for intake of the food varieties.
