Benefits of yogurt on gastrointestinal health have been widely investigated in numerous studies and regular yogurt consumption may contribute to the favorable gut microbiome. Recently, the data from 2 large, prospective cohort studies revealed that regular yogurt consumption was correlated with the reduced risk of proximal colon cancer. Compared to no yogurt consumption, the consumption of at least 1 serving per week of yogurt at baseline was associated with a 16% reduction in proximal colon cancer incidence. Thus, regular yogurt consumption would be beneficial in maintaining gut health and lowering the risk of proximal colon cancer.
